Intent
At Bowbrook, we are determined to prepare our children for an exciting and fulfilled life. Our PSHE curriculum contributes to developing the whole-person so all pupils are fully equipped for success – whatever their definition of this is. PSHE sets learning within real-life contexts that affect our children, their parents and teachers, this is reflected in all areas of the curriculum.
Through PSHE, our children will be:
- safe,
- healthy,
- independent,
- responsible.
Whilst living and breathing our ethos of ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’.
We want our pupils to live happy, healthy and fulfilled lives, and develop a strong sense of community both now and in the future so they are good people who contribute positively to society.
We teach the children to care about their environment and their community both locally and nationally and we support charitable and social causes.
We take great effort to educate our children on health and safety matters by providing practical and memorable experiences and inviting in visitors and professionals to speak with the children.
Implementation
The curriculum is rooted in statutory guidance and reflects our commitment to safeguarding, equality, and preparing children for life beyond school. PSHE is delivered through the iDecision programme, a structured and progressive scheme that covers key themes including relationships, health and wellbeing, living in the wider world, and British values. Lessons are taught weekly by class teachers and supported by assemblies, themed half terms, and cross-curricular links. Staff receive regular training to ensure consistency and confidence in delivery. The curriculum is adapted to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND, and is informed by pupil voice and local context.

Impact
Pupils at Bowbrook demonstrate a strong understanding of personal safety, emotional regulation, and respectful relationships. They are able to articulate their views, listen to others, and apply their learning in real-life situations. Behaviour across the school reflects the values taught in PSHE, and safeguarding records show increased pupil awareness and reporting. Regular assessments, pupil surveys, and staff feedback confirm that iDecision PSHE is making a measurable difference to pupil wellbeing, inclusion, and readiness for the next stage of education.
Bowbrook School provides a caring, positive, safe, and stimulating environment which promotes all pupils’ social, physical, emotional and moral development.
