Sports Premium Funding
We are passionate about sport at Bowbrook and are lucky to have some experienced and quality staff who have excellent contacts and skills in a variety of sports. Our children swim from Reception age at Shrewsbury school and we have competitive football matches, cross country events and perform Dance at Theatre Severn annually. Every child in Year 1 who wanted to, represented their school competitively.
Last year we received an award for our Active Travel through our WOW – Walk to school initiative finishing 7th in Shropshire. We had a Witness the fitness week which involved external experts, horse riding, calisthenics, healthy cooking and guest speakers as well as a visit to Shrewsbury Town Football stadium. We have our own mini bus donated by Crossbar – a local coaching company- to support our health and fitness provision.
What is sports premium funding and how is it spent?
We receive just over £16,000 annually to spend on our provision for sports and well-being.
We aim to teach our children to swim at an early age, a vital life skill, enter competitions, upskill our teachers, increased the participation in Extra Curricular clubs and provide experiences for children who may not get certain opportunities.
Last year we ran sports clubs for Reception and Year children including:
- Cross Country
- Football
- Dance
- Calisthenics
- Fencing
The school and governors are committed to providing access to high quality teaching for all pupils and increased opportunities to compete at varying levels.
Please see our PE page on our website and the school facebook page for some of the events we have participated in.
We were not eligible for Sports Premium Funding in 2023-24. However a plan was still in place to provide a quality sports offer to pupils.
