When I grow up, I want to be an artist! 🎨

This morning we welcomed Rory to our school.

Rory had the most inspirational story. He told us how at the age of 8 he had arthritis and was extremely poorly. Rory loved art and because he couldn’t run around and be as active anymore, he poured his energy into making his artwork the best it could be.

Rory now travels the world painting murals – mainly centred around nature.

Another inspirational person delivering the same message – practise, determination & motivation lead us to living our dreams! ☁️ 🎨

Julia Buckley visits Bowbrook!

This morning we had a visit from Julia Buckley MP
Julia delivered an assembly to the children and spoke about democracy and her role as a Member of Parliament.
We then took her around our school and showed her our Little People, Big Dreams exhibition and heard how she is the first female Shrewsbury MP.

Little People, Big Dreams ☁️

When Mae Jemison was a little girl, she stared up at the stars and dreamed of blasting off into space in a rocket.
Everyone told her that she could not be an astronaut.
In 1992 she became the first African American woman to go into space 🚀

Our children loved hearing this story today.

Artists in the making 🖌️ 🎨

Artists Cherie and Hilary taught us that there are many types of artists, an architect draws plans to design buildings, at the theatre many artists design the scenes, costumes, make up. In a book artists create illustrations of the story and characters. On television and in films artists design the characters and settings.
The children became artists and used paper and pens to create their own scenes.

Our very own inspirational people ✨ ☁️

DAY FIVE ✨

Today was all about our very own inspirational people…our children. 🤍

We discussed all of the amazing things we have explored this week; the famous people, the visitors, the workshops & we thought about what OUR big dream was.

We’ve created our very own dream jars. We added some magic sparkles and bright colours but we know that for our dreams to come true, we need to work hard, be determined and to never give up but to accept the help from our adults and peers when we need it. ☁️

Happy Friday everybody, what an inspirational week we’ve had. ✨

Sir Elton John 💎

Today’s inspirational person was Sir Elton John. The children thought his style was ‘funky’ and ‘sparkly’ and were inspired to make their own Elton John style glasses. We listened to his music & decided it made us feel ‘jiggy’ and ‘bouncy’!

Our children prepared a delicious banquet to enjoy with their families this afternoon.

As always our community turned up in their numbers to support our school and make the afternoon memorable for our children.
There was just about enough food for everyone to get a plate full 🥢

Bricklaying at Bowbrook 🧱

Today’s visitor was Bren, a Bricklayer who taught us how to build a wall.

Bren didn’t always find school easy – but he always loved construction! Now, together with his brothers, they run a successful business building circa 500 houses a year.

Hard work, determination & striving to be the best they can be – a common theme across our week so far. 💪🏻 🧱

Working collaboratively with children from across the school, our children took part in a variety of workshops.

We designed, up-cycled and accessorised dresses & shirts.

We made placards to encourage people to help save our planet!

DEREK REDMOND 🏃‍♂️
We explored thoughts & feelings of training & running an important race. We learnt to never give up but to accept help when we need it.

Following football dreams… ⚽️

To open day two of our Dream Big Dreams week, we had an assembly with Jamie Haynes, Crossbar Chief Operations Officer and Assistant Manager.

Jamie spoke to us about how his dream was to be a footballer but even though he worked hard & didn’t give up, his path took a different direction! Now, Jamie is a football coach and inspires young people to be the best they can be.

We left our assembly feeling motivated and inspired to give everything our best go! 💪🏻

Dream to be a Dancer 🩰 🪩

Our first ‘Inspirational Person’ visitor was Katie Crosland from KCDC Dance School. 🩰

Katie told us about how she had wanted to dance from the age of 3 & had followed her dreams, after school, college & university, to open her own dance school. She told us how hard she had to work and sometimes when she felt tired & didn’t succeed, she wanted to give up…but she didn’t! And now she’s fulfilled her dream. 💪🏻

When I grow up, I want to…work at the Hospital! 🏥

What an amazing visit from Mrs Mammone! She works at the hospital with the anaesthesia team, looking after people when they need an operation. The children were so excited to meet ‘Fred’ and find out about all the equipment that is needed to keep him asleep.

When I grow up, I’d like to be a Firefighter! 🚒

Thank you so much Firefighter Alan for coming and talking to us about the job of a firefighter. We loved learning all about how to stay safe in a fire and the equipment a Firefighter uses! It was very heavy and hot! But of course our favourite part was seeing a real fire truck and seeing the hose squirt water!

When I grow up, I’d like to be a Doctor! 👩‍⚕️

Thank you so much to Dr Bailey who kindly came this afternoon to talk to the children about her job as a GP. They were very keen to find out about all the different instruments she can use to check patients over. They were intrigued by the models of the heart and spine. I wonder if your child can remember some of the new vocabulary!
There were plenty of keen future doctors…… even when they found out it took 10 years to be fully trained!

Little Chefs 🧑‍🍳
Star Biscuits for our little chefs today.
So many great learning opportunities; teamwork, measuring, communication and language, turn-taking, life skills and the best bit – taste testing!
Although not all of our Little Chefs took part in baking today, they said it would ‘be kind’ (one of our school rules) to make enough biscuits to share with the whole class. What kind little ones we have!🌟

Dragonflies go swimming… 🏊

Spring term (although a very frosty start) sees the start of Dragonflies swimming sessions! We were so proud of the resilience, determination & bravery our children showed today. A true act of ‘feel the fear and do it anyway!’💪🏻

Thank you to our friends at Shrewsbury School for the pool usage again – by working together with our community, we can provide opportunities like these for our children.

Christmas Dinner 😋

The most delicious Christmas Dinner for our children and staff today! 😋 The pigs in blankets were a definite hit but our favourite part was all sitting together, pulling crackers and spreading the festive cheer!

Bowbrook really has got talent! Our little superstars shone today as they took to the stage to perform their acts. Dancers, singers, comedians, artists, train enthusiasts – we had it all! We are so proud of you Bowbrook, you felt the fear & did it anyway! 💪🏻 & you would ALL get the golden buzzer in our eyes. 🥇 🌟

Christmas Jumper Day!

Today, we donned our Christmas Jumpers and donated to Save the Children. It’s important for us to talk to the children about what charity is & why we have these non uniform days.

The children also came up with some lovely ideas about how they could help other children that wouldn’t cost them any money!

Run, run as fast as you can…

👨‍🍳 GINGERBREAD MAKING 👩‍🍳

We explored how to make gingerbread men that won’t run away (unlike the one out of The Gingerbread Man).
Next we will be adding our decorations and writing a set of instructions to give to the old man and old lady so they can try to bake a gingerbread man that they can eat!
