Walk for Water Aid 💦

Our Miss Stone has walked 5km every day throughout March to raise money for Water Aid. She has raised a brilliant £1300.
We had a visit from Hannah from Water Aid who spoke to our children about water, sanitation and hygiene.
It has made us appreciate how lucky we are to have running water available at all times.

Spring Walk 🌼

A beautiful spring walk this afternoon to spot signs of spring around our estate. We found daffodils, listened to the birds, saw buds on the hedgerows & (our collective favourite) we felt the sunshine on our backs & didn’t have to wear our coats! ☀️

When we got back to school, we used our findings to create spring wands! We hope our spell of ‘let there be lots more sunshine and blue sky’ works! 🤞🏼

Dancers at Theatre Severn 🪩🌈

We couldn’t be anymore proud of these little dancers who rocked the Theatre Severn stage last night! A fantastic event & one we know they will remember forever. 🪩🌈

Inspiration for our runners! 🏃‍♂️

Mr Little came into school today to talk to the children taking part in the Shropshire Half Marathon.
He spoke about his experience running 2 London marathons and the one he has coming up next month!
He highlighted the importance of practising, eating healthily, drinking water and cheering on your friends. All values for us at Bowbrook- let’s get training 🏃‍♀️

Shropshire Half Marathon Runners 🏃‍♂️

Training starts for our Shropshire Half Marathon runners from Kingfishers and Dragonflies.

Children will run daily at lunchtime as part of their program and will be clocking up the miles out of school too!

The Rainbow Snail 🌈🐌

We had a clear winner on our storybook vote this morning – The Rainbow Snail.

After we had read the story and thought about lots of different coloured items that we could add to our own rainbow, the children explored further by making playdough snails, rainbow snail collages and we had lots of great discussions about when we might see a rainbow.

Wibble Wobble Jelly… 💭

Dragonflies have been observing the change when making jelly!

Not only was this the perfect opportunity for the children to learn new science vocabulary, but they then explained their knowledge in their amazing writing!

Camouflage Caterpillars 🐛

We became nature scientists this afternoon at forest school. We learnt about caterpillars being camouflaged from their prey.
We hid lots of caterpillars around the floor and became hungry birds. We found some were easy to find especially if they were bright in colour! The hardest to find were the dark green ones as they were camouflaged.

Dissection ♥️🫁

A slightly gory afternoon for our Kingfishers as Kate talked them through the dissection of a heart & a pair of lungs!

A definite case of ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’ for some of our little 5 and 6 year olds! 💪🏻

Fingerprints! ✋🏻

This afternoon we became fingerprint detectives.
We learnt that our fingerprints are all unique and we leave them all over everything we touch.
👆We used an ink pad to discover which pattern ours matched
👆We printed ours onto balloons to inflate and see clearer
👆We used them to create pictures
👆We pressed our finger tips into play dough
👆We loved seeing how the balloons created static electricity and could attach to walls or our heads

Rainbow Science 🌈 🧪

Today we were lucky enough to be joined by Kate again, who taught us how to make rainbows in test tubes! 🧪

We added universal indicator to milk, lemon juice, vinegar, water & toothpaste! Each one made a different colour for our rainbow. 🌈

Investigations, experiments and curiosity 💭

Our day started with an exciting workshop from Kate Thomas, Flo’s Mummy, who is a Science Teacher!

We looked at sand and salt under microscopes, saw how gloop changed from a liquid to a solid, explored diffusion of colour using skittles & solved a very serious crime (Mrs Madden’s stolen cupcake) using chromatography!

This afternoon, Supersonic Sue came in to explore the lifecycle of a caterpillar with us.

A brilliant, busy day full of lots of ‘why’ questions & curious minds. 🧬

It was clear that a lot of time, effort & decorating had gone into these fabulous potatoes!

Extra-Curricular Clubs 🍰 🏃‍♂️

At Bowbrook, we are passionate about finding our children’s Super Strength. We have children who are amazing at Mathematics, children who are amazing at dancing, children who are amazing at Lego & many more incredible strengths! 💪🏻

Tonight, we had two new extra-curricular clubs start: Baking with Mrs Woosnam (& let’s be honest, we’d all like to bake like Mrs Woosnam) and Calisthenics Fitness Club with Mr Ulloa (a calisthenics trainer).

Could we be finding the next Mary Berry? Did you know Bruce Lee is also famous for Calisthenics training?

More fantastic opportunities for our children.

Campfire Stories 🔥🪵

This afternoon, our Forest School leaders Mrs Engler and Miss Stone treated us to a story around the campfire! Our story was about a stick & we all had a stick to use as a prop through the story!

And of course, it wouldn’t be Forest School without a hot chocolate. ☕️ 😋

Mr Wolf’s Pancakes 🐺🥞

We started our Book Week with an exciting story with Mr Aiston about a crocodile who didn’t like water! 🐊

Then, we had an exciting Mr Wolf’s Pancakes workshop, led by the Wolf herself! We met lots of fairytale characters along the way and were inspired to explore the story more in our classrooms this afternoon. 🥞

World Down Syndrome Awareness 🌻

Today we planted our sunflower seeds in preparation for World Down Syndrome Day at the end of March.

We are proud of our diversity at Bowbrook and the sunflowers are to represent that we all develop at different rates but we get there in the end. 🌻

Kingfishers explore Shrewsbury! 🌍

We spent the morning at Shrewsbury museum, looking at the portraits of the First Mayor and Lady of Shrewsbury! We then created our own self portraits… Miss Hollis will be picking these up when they’ve dried!

We then went on a scavenger hunt around Shrewsbury town centre, looking for human features of our town! We even had a little rest to listen to some live music!

We ended the day at Shrewsbury library. We talked about Charles Darwin and how the library used to be his school. We visited ‘The Old School Room’ and found out interesting facts about the writing etched into the wood.
We finished our library session exploring books and and read ‘The Runaway Pea’!

Amazing behaviour and listening from everyone today. I hope they come home able to tell you all about their school trip!

We’re all going to Forest School… 🍃

Our Caterpillars invited their grown ups in to school this morning, to see what fun happens at Forest School! 🍂 🧡

As well as the obvious benefits of risk taking and confidence building; Forest School is the perfect outdoor classroom to develop social skills, language and communication skills, motivation and concentration, physical skills and knowledge and understanding of the world. 🌍

We’re super lucky to have Miss Stone & Mrs Engler as our Forest School trained leaders. Thank you to all of our grown ups that came today! We hope you’ve warmed up a bit now. 🥶

Grandparents Tea Party ☕️

Welcome Grandparents!

The grandparents of some of our Dragonflies visited the class today to share the similarities and differences from their school days.

We treated them to a piece of cake we had baked in our cookery room and loved showing off our classroom and all the modern resources we are lucky to have.

What a wonderful afternoon.
