Around the World week

We had an incredible week with visitors teaching us about Spain, India, Anguilla, Gambia, France, Italy and Canada.
Take a look at some of the highlights:

World Book week

On Monday afternoon we will be opening our library at 3pm. Everyone is welcome to join us. We will then be sharing a story in the Dance studio to celebrate World Book week.

Headteacher update

I hope everyone has had a good couple of weeks. This is the first Newsletter since half term and the children have quickly settled back into their routines.

This week has been incredible. Our focus has been Around the World and we have been celebrating the cultural diversity that we have within our families. We have had a live chat with Ebo school in Gambia and learned all about life in the school and the surrounding community. We have also found out all about Canada and Spain and have been lucky enough to try out some delicious food. The children have found out all about India and the Caribbean and had French lessons and sang songs from around the world. We are so lucky to have parents who are prepared to come in and educate our children and we are so grateful.

We have had Miss Jones and Mrs Engler join our team this week and we are excited to have two extremely experienced teaching assistants to support the children. Mrs Courtney will also be joining us shortly. We are currently recruiting a Year 1 teacher and have had incredible interest- rightly so too as it is a wonderful opportunity. We will be appointing the teacher before Easter so they can visit our school and meet the children before starting in September.

As always, if there are any issues do not hesitate to get in touch.

New staff members

As the number of pupils increases, we will be employing more staff to join our fantastic team. We have been lucky enough to recruit two experienced members of staff who have fitted in brilliantly.

Welcome Mrs Engler and Miss Jones!

Our facilities

We had a wonderful first week back using all our wonderful facilities to ensure the children have a rich and engaging environment.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club is 7.45 until 8.45 every day. This is ran by our staff and will involve a range of activities to work on their prime areas: communication and language, physical development and personal, social and emotional development.

Have a look at our Breakfast Club assault course: Breakfast club (youtube.com)

Our Outdoor Area

We were hoping that work would have begun on our outdoor area but unfortunately the weather and floods have prevented this from happening.

Well, our children got sick of waiting so we decided to make a start ourselves.

Fantastic opportunity to train as a Secondary School teacher

Grandparent’s Tea Party

Next Thursday we have the Grandparent’s Tea Party. We are so excited to welcome our grandparents into our school. The ingredients have arrived!

Forces!

We will be outside in all weathers so we want everyone wrapped up. There are so many amazing learning opportunities outside; it can be the best classroom in the world. This week we have explored forces at lunchtimes and it has been great fun!

Visit from the police

We had an amazing visit from two police officers this week. The children heard all about the role of our police and then had the opportunity to explore lots of the equipment, have a look inside the police car and then even try fingerprinting and collecting evidence. Our Heroes in the community theme has been inspirational for our Dragonflies and Caterpillars.

Headteacher’s update

Hope everyone has had a great week.

Our Heroes in the community week extended into Heroes in the community fortnight as we had visits from firefighters and the police this week. The children gain so much from these experiences and it is vital for them in helping them understand the world around them. I need to thank all our parents who have been in over the last couple of weeks. It is fantastic that as a community we work in partnership to provide a rich and exciting education for our little ones.

As you know our school is growing and we are setting up waiting lists for our Nursery and will be doing the same for our Reception class from next September. To accommodate this we have recruited some new members to our team and we will be introducing them shortly to our family and community.

Next week we have our children’s grandparents visiting the school for cake and drinks and the opportunity to have a look around and see what their grandchildren get up to. I know from my own family, the importance of extended families these days and we want to acknowledge their contribution.

We have put back our Around the World week until after half term to continue with our work around the people in our community.

Have a great week.

Firefighters

One of the heroes in our community is Firefighter Alan. The children loved learning all about the job he does. They asked some fantastic questions and have been using the vocabulary in their role play throughout the week.

We are loving Heroes in the community week.

Local nurses visit

We were lucky enough to have a visit from some of our nursing friends who taught the children all about how to keep their teeth healthy.

Headteacher’s update

This has been a wonderful week at Bowbrook. One of the specific areas in the Early Years curriculum is Understanding the World. Within Understanding the World, the children need to develop their understanding of society and the roles people play within it. We are so lucky at Bowbrook to have parents who contribute so much to society so this week we have had many visitors in school talking about the jobs that they do. Please look at our website and social media for what the children have been learning.

Currently we are recruiting for more staff to join our growing team. We are excited by this and have met many interested candidates. When we have appointed, we will let you know and we look forward to you welcoming them into our school community.

Thank you for your continued support as a community. We are really proud with the school we are creating and are excited about the future. As always, if there are any issues or any improvements you feel we could make then please let me know.

Have a great weekend and wrap up warm.

Dance club is back!

The children love Dance and are preparing for a performance at the Theatre Severn!

We have a range of After schools this half term.

We love PE

We love PE in our school. It is an opportunity to take ourselves out of our comfort zone and work on our gross motor skills.

Phonics

Every morning we do Phonics with the children. This is a highly effective way of teaching the children to decode words and as a result be able to read fluently and confidently. At Bowbrook the scheme we use is Unlocking Letters and Sounds.

Headteacher’s welcome

Welcome back everyone

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas. We have been hearing all about what everyone has been up to and the presents that the children received and the presents that they gave to their family.

The new term is under way and it has been a wonderful start. There are quite a few new starters in Nursery and we welcome our new families. I have no doubt that they will love being part of the school community that we are growing.

To cope with the increasing demand, we are looking for some new support staff to work in our Nursery and someone to help out across dinnertimes, both on the kitchen and supporting the children.

There are lots planned for the next few weeks. The children have already been to Think tank in Birmingham and next week we are looking at the roles people have in the community as part of a week focusing on heroes. If anyone would like to visit and speak to the children about their job then please get in touch.

It is a pleasure to be the Headteacher of the school and I am excited about the learning and the opportunities that we have coming up.

Any issues then please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Headteacher update

I love these last weeks before Christmas. The children are so excited and it makes being in school magical.

We have had an action packed week as you will see from the newsletter. We have also been showing around more parents wanting to send their children to us when they begin Reception in September. We are growing the school steadily and will never compromise on quality. We are looking to expand our staff and still have a lunchtime supervisor vacancy and will be releasing a vacancy for a Teaching Assistant this week.

A quick note on the Nativity: we had our nursery children involved and we were thrilled that our 3 year olds took part. As a school, we are inclusive and we want everyone to take part whatever their ability or age. I know our families appreciate this and that is why as a staff, parent group, governing body, 3-18 Trust we are proving such an effective team.

Pantomime next week as well as Christmas parties – it is going to be a wild one!

Nativity

Thankyou to everyone who came along to support our Nativity performances this week. The children loved having you there and it was magical to share this as a community. We are so proud of our children for ‘feeling the fear and doing it anyway’.

ICT at Bowbrook

We have had a delivery of i-pads and have a range of apps to support the children’s learning. We love technology at Bowbrook!

Serving the community

At Bowbrook we are determined to be the focus of our wonderful community and want to share the incredible resources that we have. It was a pleasure to host the Brain tumour support group’s Christmas party in our hall.

Imagination Playground

After experiencing this equipment for the first time at Shrewsbury Museum we purchased this for our children. It is great for their physical development but also to enable them to become critical thinkers and designers and solve problems. We all love it too!

Teamwork

We constantly talk to the children about the importance of working as part of a team and ensuring we all help one another.

Exploring time

A huge part of the Early Years Foundation Stage is the physical, social and emotional development of our children. We use the outdoor area as much as we can to enable this.

Clubs

We are having great fun at our After school clubs. This half term we have done Football, Board games, Coding and Dance club.
